Cow Giving at Nyemasheke
Yesterday (Wed) I officially handed over Peveril the cow - donated by the good folks of Castleton earlier in the year. She was given as part of a Reconciliation Programme. The lady on the right of the picture risked her own life by protecting her friend and neighbour who is Tutsi (left of picture). The cow is a 'thank you' and the first calf goes back to the friend who was protected and then milk and subsequent calves are shared - as a lasting show of friendship. This ceremony took place in the West of Rwanda and in Nyemasheke District which is one of the poorest areas of the country.
